The YMCA of Greater Rochester is showing the community what their new Southeast facility will look like.
This preview party included family activities such as carnival games, a bounce house and face painting.
The event was held on the grounds of what will become the new 140,000 square foot building.
Organizers say it will have something for everybody like amenities such as a senior center, daycare center and a medical partnership.
“It’s hard to look at it, looking down on a map and saying oh so that’s what it’s going to look like, but when you’re standing here and you can see wow it’s that long or it goes this way, or there’s the main entrance or here’s where the other entrance is,” said George Romell, Rochester YMCA President and CEO> “It’s cool, people get that feel. That’s why we mulched the main hallways so people can, oh I can get to these places not to long.”
Organizers say the facility will replace the current Southeast Y which is nearly 50-years-old.
Organizers are planning to break ground on the project in the spring of 2018 and will be finished by the fall of 2019.
